Your data & uninstalling
What Barbican stores, what deactivating and deleting the plugin do, and the one setting that controls whether your data is removed.
Barbican stores your real estate records in its own database tables, and it’s deliberate about what happens to them when you deactivate or delete the plugin. This page explains what gets created, what’s kept, and the single setting that controls whether your data is ever removed.
What Barbican creates
Section titled “What Barbican creates”When you activate Barbican, it sets up two things:
- RESO data tables. Barbican stores your listings, agents, offices, media, and every other record in dedicated database tables, in the RESO Data Dictionary shape. This is your real estate data — the substance of your site.
- Scaffolding. The public pages, the navigation menu, user roles, and the plugin’s settings (see Pages & Repair pages and Navigation).
Deactivating is safe
Section titled “Deactivating is safe”Deactivating Barbican — from Plugins → Installed Plugins — turns the plugin off but removes nothing. Your data and pages stay exactly as they are, ready for when you reactivate. Deactivate freely.
Deleting the plugin
Section titled “Deleting the plugin”Deleting Barbican (Plugins → Delete) always removes its scaffolding — the pages, navigation, roles, and settings it created. That part is housekeeping and isn’t your content.
Your RESO data is treated differently. Because those tables hold your real work, Barbican keeps them by default — so if you delete the plugin and later reinstall it, your listings and everything else are still there. Removing that data is opt-in, and you control it from one setting.
The uninstall setting
Section titled “The uninstall setting”The choice lives on a dedicated screen. Reach it from Plugins → Installed Plugins, find Barbican, and click Uninstall settings in its row (the same row as Repair pages).
There’s a single checkbox, off by default:
- Left off (default) — deleting the plugin removes only the scaffolding; your RESO data tables are kept, so a reinstall picks up right where you left off.
- Turned on — deleting the plugin also drops every RESO data table: all listings, agents, offices, media, and other records. This cannot be undone.
This setting is available to administrators only — it’s an owner-level decision, not part of day-to-day staff work.
